Winter Solstice

Today is the Winter Solstice - and my first Algerian Iris came out yesterday:

and, while I am here, can anyone identify this small tree. It comes up everywhere, but I like it. Reminds me of Dinosaurs etc:

Triffid

It is coming into flower at the moment.

Is it a member of the Fatsia family,Chloe?
The leaves look the right shape and size, although the flowers look more like a Fatshedera which can be grown as a shrub or a vine.
So now you have my tuppenceworth!
